How To Remote Start Your BMW

2025 BMW iX

BMW is famous for building high-quality models brimming with luxury features, and no amenity better showcases this than BMW Remote Start. Available on most new models, the BMW remote car starter ensures you can step into an already-running, climate-controlled vehicle, no matter what the Topeka weather throws at you. Learn how to remote start your BMW with a key fob or smartphone with this comprehensive guide from the service team at BMW of Topeka.

BMW Remote Start Options

BMW Remote Start is available for purchase on most new and used BMW vehicles from 2019 onward, and requires an active BMW ConnectedDrive account linked to the car. If you aren’t sure whether you have remote access to your vehicle, check your My BMW App and explore the current amenities available for your model.

Once you’ve acquired BMW Remote Start, you can activate it in one of two ways: through your key fob or the My BMW App on your smartphone. Learn how to remote start your BMW with a key fob or smartphone below:

How To Remote Start Your BMW With A Key Fob:

  • While in range, press the lock button on your key fob three times.
  • Your BMW engine will start and stay on for up to 15 minutes.

How To Remote Start Your BMW With The My BMW App:

  • Open your My BMW App.
  • Tap on the “Vehicle” tab.
  • Select “Remote Services.”
  • Tap “Remote Engine Start.”
  • If you also have cabin pre-conditioning, you will need to tap the “Climate” button and select your temperature.
  • Your BMW engine will start, and your climate system will adjust to your preferred setting for up to 15 minutes.

BMW Remote Start Troubleshooting

If the BMW Remote Start function isn’t working, there are some simple solutions you can do at home to get your convenience feature up and running before your next Kansas City trip:

  • Check Your Key Fob Battery: If the BMW remote car starter on your key fob isn’t working, try locking and unlocking the doors. If your BMW doesn’t respond, your key fob may need a new battery.
  • Close and Re-Open Your My BMW App: Using the My BMW App to start your car? Ensure you’re within range of your vehicle and try again. If you’re within range and your car still won’t start, close and re-open the My BMW App. Once reopened, try the function again.

If these simple fixes don’t solve the issue, contact the experts at BMW of Topeka’s service team. Our trained technicians will diagnose the problem and get you back on the Lawrence roads as soon as possible.
